Data Management Structure

Data management has been always an important problem for experimentalists. Researchers still rely heavily on personal note-books and data storage from various instruments, often in proprietary formats. Powerful software has been developed for handling the large amount of data obtained in particle physics, leading to the development of the World Wide Web. In fluid dynamics research, data handling techniques are scattered among many laboratories with little coordination. It is believed that HYDRALAB is a good place to improve this situation, sharing the expertise of some Hydralab partners who participate in the European data standard networks HarmonIT, MarineXML and ARION related to marine sciences.
Within HYDRALAB we have developed a first prototype of a data management tool for hydraulic experimental reseach. Currently the tool is being evaluated by the participants. If you are interested, please contact the coordinator at hydralab@deltares.nl.
